Talla na Mara
Talla na Mara is a new community owned venue in the heart of West Harris and includes 3 small pitches with electrical hook ups at the edge of the Centre’s landscaped grounds. The pitches are a short walk from Niseaboist beach and Macleod’s standing stone with stunning views across the Sound of Taransay.
Pitches are open all year round (closed over Christmas period) and have access to all of the facilities of the centre during opening hours (Mon-Sat). These include; a restaurant serving Brunch and Dinner, a Gallery featuring work by local artists, open studios showcasing local arts and crafts and activities and events throughout the year. Out of office hours access to toilets and shower is via an external door with keypad entry. The site isn’t suitable for awnings, should you wish to make use of one, we would recommend our site at Seilebost school. (opened April-September)
Seilebost School hookups are an ideal base for your holiday in West Harris. The site is located within the old primary school grounds, with views across the machair and just a few minutes walk from Seilebost beach. With views to Luskentyre beach and the North Harris mountains beyond.

There are currently five Trust camping spots in West Harris, located in Losgaintir (Luskentyre) and Seilebost (Shelibost). We have identified these sites in order to protect the roadsides from erosion. These spots offer fantastic views and are marked with a small sign. We are asking visitors to pay £5 per night at each spot. Caravans, campervans and tents are all welcome. As a charity all earnings are reinvested into community projects, including site maintenance.
If you are already at one of the camping spots or have previously stayed and would like to pay, please do so by phoning us on 01859 503900 or by using the PayPal link below. Alternatively, you can post cash, a cheque or pop in and see us at Talla na Mara.
Non-Trust camping can be found at Horgabost campsite, which has toilets and showers.
As you are coming south from Tarbert down the A859, the first spot will be on your left, in a large gravel parking area just past the ‘Welcome to West Harris’ sign. The area’s perimeter is marked by boulders and there is a small imitation standing stone. The spot, as with all other camping spots is clearly marked with a sign and leaflet holder. From here there is a view south over Luskentyre.
The second, third and fourth sites are in Luskentyre township. As you drive south on the A859, there will be a turning on your right for ‘Losgaintir’. A single track road leads through the township and dead-ends at a stunning beach. The camping spots are all in the initial half of the road, on the left hand side. All three have views over Luskentyre and easy access to the sand at low tide.
The fifth spot is back on the main road (A859) if you continue south. It is on the right hand side, in a small gravel parking area just before Seilebost causeway begins. This spot looks out over Luskentyre and Seilebost sands.
