Seilebost School was closed by the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in 2013, despite a strong campaign from parents, teachers, community members and other stakeholders. The school was then purchased by the West Harris Trust, to ensure that the future development of the school was in the hands of the very people who campaigned to save it. Seilebost school has been at the heart of the West Harris community for many years, and through its redevelopment will continue to play a key role in our communities future.
After two community consultations, it has been decided that we will move forward with plans to refurbish the school to be used as business space, creating more opportunities for small businesses on the West side of Harris. A significant amount of work is required to bring the building into modern times and as such the plan will be implemented in a number of stages.
Refurbish the existing toilets and storage shelter into a toilet and shower block, with a washing up area for caravan/motorhome users.
We are currently receiving quotes for the work required and hope to have the renovations completed before the start of the summer season.
