Seilebost

When the Old School in Seilebost closed in 2013, the Trust bought the building and initially used it as thier offices until Talla na Mara was built. They then renovated it and converted it into a small campsite and rented business space.

Place name:

As with Niseabost and Horgabost, the ‘bost’ part of the name comes from the Old Norse for a farm. The ‘Seil’ possibly comes from ‘shell’ which is appropriate given its location on the machair and closeness to the beach.

Notable sites:

  • Seilebost beach and machair
